HomeSpace Celebrates 9 Years of Housing Calgarians
Calgary, AB — HomeSpace Society celebrated 9 Years of housing our community.
On October 9, we brought together sector partners, housing champions, and community members for an evening of connection and meaningful conversation. We were honoured to hear from two influential voices in Calgary’s housing sector — Alan Norris, former CEO and Chair of Brookfield Residential, and Reid Hendry, Chief Housing Officer at the City of Calgary — who shared their insights on the state of housing in our city.
The theme of this year’s celebration – Built to Evolve – signifies our commitment to continuously learning, adapting, and innovating so we can build homes that truly meet people where they’re at, and provide them with a stable foundation for the future. This means we don’t back down from challenging the status quo and instead look for the best possible path to tackling the housing crisis in our city.
In 2024, HomeSpace completed Hope Heights – the last of the 13 buildings from the Calgary’s Collaborative Capital Campaign for Affordable Housing (formerly known as RESOLVE). This 4 storey, 35-unit apartment building in Crescent Heights is home to an innovative intergenerational program focused on connecting young indigenous mothers and their children with elders – creating a community of mutual support. This milestone is not just the end of a campaign but the beginning of a brighter future for many Calgarians.
As we enter our 10th year as HomeSpace, there is a lot to be excited about. Next spring we will welcome home 52 families to the community of Whitehorn/Horizon and break ground on 45-units in the community of Evergreen. These projects are both community-oriented project that will provide families with stability and support while they connect and rebuild.
To our supporters, champions and advocates, thank you for believing in us, we cannot wait to continue working together to achieve our vision “a home for everyone in our community”.
