Buffalo, NY - September
26, 2007 - Homespace Corporation – a Buffalo-based non-profit group that teaches homeless, single mothers and fathers to build the skills to become self-sufficient, better parents – announced that the Western New York Grocery Manufacturers Representatives (GMR) presented the Buffalo non-profit with a check for $5,000. The proceeds came from the second annual GMR Charity Golf Outing at Lancaster Country Club, which was held on Monday, July 23, 2007. Attending this year’s GMR Charity Golf Outing were Buffalo Sabres alumni, Buffalo Bills radio play-by-play announcer John Murphy and more than 100 Western New York business executives.
"Because of GMR, John Murphy, our celebrity guests, and all of this year’s golfers, we were able to raise nearly 50 percent
more dollars than we netted at last year’s golf outing," said Kim Morris, executive director of Homespace. "Receiving this check
from the GMR gave us all a boost and put smiles on so many faces. But the people of the GMR have given us their time and passion,
too, which helps us provide the education that puts homeless families on a path to self-sufficiency."
2007 marked the second year that the GMR has donated a portion of the proceeds of its Charity Golf Outing to benefit Homespace.
"This year’s event was a success because we worked very hard with Homespace, John Murphy and many others to market and raise awareness for not only the golf outing, but also the important work being done by Homespace," said Dion Benzino, secretary for the Grocery Manufacturers Representatives of Western New York. "John, in particular, took time out to tour Homespace and speak from the heart at this year’s golf outing about what he saw. When a person as busy as John finds time to help, it inspires others to help too."
