Buffalo, NY - June
21, 2007 - Western New York's Grocery Manufacturers Representatives
(GMR) will host Buffalo Sabres alumni, Buffalo Bills play-by-play announcer John
Murphy and area business executives at the second annual GMR
Charity Golf Outing at Lancaster Country Club on Monday, July 23, 2007, to benefit Homespace Corporation,
a Buffalo-based non-profit group that teaches homeless, single mothers and fathers
to build the skills to become self-sufficient, better parents.
"We have a fun-filled and exciting day of golf, networking,
contests and dining planned at beautiful Lancaster Country Club,
with the goal of helping our friends at Homespace," said Dion Benzino,
secretary for the Grocery Manufacturers Representatives of Western
New York and Homespace board member. "Our celebrity golfers this
year include a number of Buffalo Sabres alumni, and we're honored
to have John Murphy as this year's guest speaker."
2007 marks the
second year the GMR has donated a portion of the proceeds of
its Charity Golf Outing to benefit Homespace.
Check-in for this year's
event begins at 9:00 a.m. at Lancaster Country Club on 6061 Broadway
in Lancaster, N.Y. A shotgun start begins play at 11:00 a.m. Golfers
will enjoy a barbeque lunch on the course. Play concludes with a
program of raffles, an auction, followed
by a steak dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Registration is limited
to 126 golfers, and GMR encourages attendees to register by July
1. A limited number of corporate sponsorships are available. To learn
more and register, contact Ken Malecki at 668-5486.
"For 13 years, Homespace and its many volunteers and contributors
have helped hundreds of homeless moms and dads and their children
shed their fears and build better lives," added Benzino. "Teaching
these families to care for themselves and find good-paying, productive
jobs in our community takes work and money. Everyone who tees off
with us this year will be helping us raise funds to continue Homespace's
valuable mission."
"The GMR Charity Golf Outing will go a long, long way to helping
Homespace provide the tools to carry on a 13-year mission that provides
young adults and their children with education, mentoring and a structured
lifestyle that puts them on a path to self-sufficiency," said Kim
Morris, executive director of Homespace.
"We thank Dion, the GMR, the Sabres alumni, special guest John
Murphy and everyone from the community who is contributing time and
money to support our mission by attending this year's golf outing,"
added Michael Keating, president of the Homespace board of directors
and senior vice president for the Buffalo Division of Wegmans Food
Markets, Inc.
