Buffalo, NY - October
6, 2004 - Homespace Corporation, a non-profit
organization that provides affordable transitional housing and
support services to homeless single-parent families, today announced
that it has received a donation of $1,500 from Women Lawyers of
Western New York, a professional organization.
The donation helps bring Homespace nearly half-way to its goal of
raising more than $150,000 in gifts and grants by the end of this
year for its fiscal year 2005 operating budget. Women Lawyers of
WNY raised the funds in a fundraiser event organized specifically
with regard to Homespace.
“The generosity of Women Lawyers of WNY is most sincerely
appreciated and indicative of the spirit of giving that pervades
this community,” said Thelma Roberts, Executive Director of
Homespace. “Despite the fact that we’re celebrating our
tenth year, our mission is as valid today as it was in 1994. I would
not be a bit surprised if other professional organizations followed
the lead of Women Lawyers of WNY to help us achieve our goal.”
Sharon Nosenchuck, Esq., president of Women Lawyers of Western New
York said, “When we recognize a great cause we know how to
rally our support behind it. Homespace deserves the support of professional
organizations and the community at large, and we hope our support
encourages others to embrace Homespace with their financial support.”
Homespace operates twelve semi-furnished townhouses in downtown
Buffalo, and is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Since opening its
doors in 1994, Homespace has graduated more than 100 families, including
more than 300 parents and children. Homespace derives its financial
support from grants from private foundations and government agencies,
most notably HUD and Erie County, contributions from corporate and
faith-based organizations, and, increasingly, individuals.
