Groundbreaking is scheduled at 10
a.m. Friday for a second transitional group residence for young mothers,
Homespace Corp. officials have announced.
Second Chance Home, at 1171 Michigan Ave., is scheduled for completion
in the spring. It will serve eight teenage mothers between the ages
of 14 and 17. The young women will receive nurturing and emotional
support, structure and socialization. They may stay at Second Chance
Home until they're 18, completing their education and learning independent
living skills in the meantime.
Construction will be funded by the state Bureau of Housing and Homeless
Assistance, as well as grants from United Parcel Service and a federal
home loan grant through First Niagara Bank.
The nonprofit Homespace Corp. also operates Homespace, an Ellicott
Street transitional housing complex for single women ages 18 to 25
and their children. |
