There is seldom a day when I am
not thinking about this extraordinary organization, and how we must
do all we can to support and sustain it. I reflect on the many residents
- past and present - we have known, and the dedicated staff and volunteers
who have contributed to our families' achievements.
But seldom have I reflected on the name -- Homespace -- and
what the combination of words really means.
What does "home" mean to someone who may never have had
one? What does "space" suggest to a young parent
with few possessions, no job, no schooling, and no hope? And what
is it about the marriage of these two words that represents the best
of who we are as a community – a community that has built its
reputation on being good neighbors who care for one another?
Homespace.
It is more than shelter. It is more than space. It is even more
than home. It is a secure and caring environment for young families
who have known neither security nor caring in their lives. It is
simultaneously supportive and challenging. It is an experience of
the real world that, by enhancing expectations for mother and child,
fosters independence and self-respect. It is the best of us, a community
that takes care of its own.
Please join us in our mission and learn how powerful the combination
of these two words can be. It's as simple as visiting us or
sending your tax deductible contribution to Homespace
Corporation, or visiting our Make
